TowerJazz sees smartphone demand fuelling growth

TowerJazz expects strong demand for smartphones to fuel growth in 2012 after it reported sharply higher fourth-quarter revenue. TowerJazz has carved out a niche supplying specialist analog chips for Apple's iPhone, Samsung's Galaxy and other smartphones.
It is also benefitting from strong demand for its image sensors used in medical and dental X-rays and digital cameras, as well as radio frequency chips and embedded memory chips.
"Why does TowerJazz focus on analog even though the world is going digital? Because without analog, digital won't work. Analog adds tremendous value," CEO Russell Ellwanger told a news conference on Thursday.
Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has Approved Grants to TowerJazz for its Cap-Ex Investment Plan

TowerJazz Japan, Ltd. (TJP) has been selected to receive a cap-ex subsidy from the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI). This subsidy program aims to improve the logistics and facilities of the business locations of companies operating within Japan as well as encourage new investment to maintain and create employment by providing domestic site location subsidies to production sites. As part of this program, 294 projects were selected with a total subsidy budget of 202.3 billion yen (˜2.5 billion dollars).
The subsidy will enable TJP to accelerate its transition from an IDM DRAM fab to an analog specialty foundry and expand collaboration opportunities with customers in Japan. The funding will assist TJP in the ramp of specialized technologies and provide assistance with equipment and infrastructure for further business development.
TowerJazz partners with the Blind Children’s Learning Center
The company establishes an employee volunteer program with the aim towards more community involvement.

TowerJazz is partnering with the Blind Children’s Learning Center (BCLC) in Santa Ana, CA as part of their U.S. Social Responsibility Plan. More than 80 TowerJazz employees traveled by bus to the center last week, in order to help out the BCLC staff in their education and services for the blind, visually impaired and deaf-blind children. They spent time inside the classroom and out on the playground, cleaning toys, painting furniture, and assisting the children one-on-one as a BCLC faculty member would do.
"I was deeply impressed with the company’s attitude toward volunteerism. They truly care about the needs in our community. It was evident by the way they connected with our children," said Barbara Alvarado, a member of the Blind Children’s Learning Center’s board.

The presentation will focus on the availability of TowerJazz's advanced specialty technologies such as front-end module (FEM) development, CMOS image sensors for security and x-ray applications, 700v LED lighting, and scalable LDMOS for DC-DC converters. TowerJazz's presence at IIC China demonstrates its strong commitment to address the demands of business in this region. According to iSuppli, today 42 percent of all ICs are consumed in China and it is projected to grow to nearly 50 percent by 2015.
Nujira will get its 4G chips fabbed at TowerJazz

Nujira has selected TowerJazz as its foundry partner for its recently announced envelope tracking (ET) chip aimed at reducing the power of radio circuits in 4G mobile handsets
The launch of the NCT-L1100 modulator marks the Cambridge-based firm's decision to develop a fabless business model to address the high volume, global smartphone and mobile device market.
"Our new IC for mobile handsets is hugely significant for the business and strategically, so it was absolutely critical that we selected the right foundry partner," said Tim Haynes, CEO, Nujira.
Kilopass NVM IP qualified at 130-nm at TowerJazz

Non-volatile memory (NVM) IP vendor Kilopass Technology Inc. said its XPM embedded one-time programmable (OTP) anti-fuse NVM IP has successfully completed 1,000 hours of JEDEC 47 standard qualification for the 130-nm G CMOS process at specialty foundry TowerJazz.
Analog and mixed-signal designers building SoCs on the TowerJazz 130-nm G CMOS process now have a source of anti-fuse NVM IP memory blocks offering 1kb to 1Mb of secure storage for calibration and trim data with over 10 years of reliability and data retention, according to Kilopass (Santa Clara, Calif.). The Kilopass XPM addresses the markets of RF power amplifiers, capacitive sensors, PMIC and other mixed-signal applications, according to the company.
